Rob Charles’ dedication to pro bono work is inspiring and a legacy at SALA. During
the past 25 years, he has handled 31 pro bono cases and volunteered for 72 clinics
through SALA, assisting more than 250 clients. His recent contributions include
serving on our Volunteer Lawyers Program Bankruptcy Reaffirmation Court Project.
Rob is consistently recognized for his volunteer efforts, receiving honors from SALA
in 2016 and 2021, as well as being named one of the Top 50 Pro Bono Attorneys in
Arizona by the Arizona Bar Foundation for his work with SALA.
A third-generation Arizonan, Rob was born and raised in Phoenix and has lived in either
Phoenix or Tucson throughout his life. In 1989, he moved permanently to Tucson,
where he has since become an integral part of the legal community.
Rob’s interest in law began during high school, when a debate topic led him to the
law school library for research. His involvement in debate continued through college,
cementing his desire to pursue a career in law. After completing his undergraduate
degree in economics at the University of Arizona, Rob earned his Juris Doctor with
distinction from the James E. Rogers College of Law.
Now a partner in Lewis Roca’s Bankruptcy and Creditors’ Rights Practice Group, Rob
practices in both Arizona and Nevada. He also teaches bankruptcy law at the James
E. Rogers College of Law, demonstrating his commitment to legal education. Rob
finds the most rewarding aspect of being a lawyer is helping clients navigate difficult
circumstances and finding solutions for their challenges. His clients recognize his
passion for developing relationships rather than focusing only on the problem at hand.
Beyond his legal career, Rob treasures his family, and enjoys vacationing by the
ocean where he contemplates its power in comparison to his “small humanity.” His
volunteerism and commitment to serving the community make him a valuable asset to
SALA and an exemplary figure in the legal field.
