Hon. (Ret.) James Conlogue, August 2024 Outstanding Volunteer of the Month

James Conlogue

Every month, SALA’s Volunteer Lawyers Program recognizes a legal professional for legal volunteerism. Thanks to our volunteer private attorneys, the Volunteer Lawyers Program serves more than 10 percent of SALA’s clients. The award is a distinct honor and highlights the dedication and commitment of 12 individuals each year who give their valuable time and expertise to the community.

We are celebrating Hon. (Ret.) James Conlogue, our August Outstanding Volunteer of the Month. Jim’s tenure as a volunteer with SALA began more than four years ago after he retired from 26 years on the bench in Cochise County Superior Court.

Conlogue was born in Morenci, Arizona. He is a tireless volunteer with our Volunteer Lawyers Program, serving in family law clinics and classes as one of our most active volunteers. Jim is a fourth-generation Arizonan. He began his career with a criminal justice degree (cum laude) from Arizona State University in 1978 and worked for the Arizona Department of Corrections. He is one of the pioneers of the Southern Arizona Correctional Release Center. The ADOC provided employees with tuition assistance, which allowed him to earn a master’s degree (cum laude) from the UA. Lucky for us, he then focused on a lifelong dream: law school. After earning his juris doctorate from the UA James E. Rogers College of Law, he worked for the Department of the Navy in Washington, D.C., then returned to Arizona. During his 26 years on the Superior Court bench, he handled a wide variety of case but enjoyed juvenile court the most.

SALA thanks you, Jim, for your tireless pro bono work on behalf of our clients!
