Tenants in Pima County should know that relief is still available to those having trouble paying rent or facing eviction due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

If you are renting your home in Pima County and have lost income due to COVID-19, you may be eligible for rental assistance. Those eligible could receive up to $2,000 per month. More information can be found on the Arizona Department of Housing website, here: http://housing.az.gov

To apply:

  • Fill out an online Program Qualification Self-Assessment, here: https://www.saveourhomeaz.gov/ra/ or
  • Call 211, then press 6 for COVID-19, choose a language, and then press 5 for Eviction Prevention to apply by phone.

Note that to apply for rental assistance you will be required to submit a photo ID, a copy of your lease, and documentation related to the financial hardship you have faced, so you should have those handy. You can find examples of the required documentation, here: https://housing.az.gov/general-public/eviction-prevention-assistance

Once you have submitted an application for rental assistance, you can check the status by calling the Pima County Community Action Agency at 520-724-2505.

If you are facing a possible eviction related to difficulties you have faced as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, you should know that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued an eviction moratorium that will be in place at least until December 31, 2020. Eligible tenants must submit a declaration form with qualifying statements to their landlord. A copy of the declaration form is available online, here: pima.gov/RentHelp

Additional information on both forms of relief for tenants in Pima County can be found, here: http://pima.gov/RentHelp
