Every month, Southern Arizona Legal Aid, Inc.’s (“SALA”) Volunteer Lawyers Program (“VLP”) recognizes a legal professional for their legal volunteerism. The award is a distinct honor and highlights the dedication and commitment of 12 individuals each year who give their valuable time and expertise to their community. Attorney Nathan Hannah is the November 2022 Outstanding Volunteer of the Month Award Recipient.

Mr. Nathan B. Hannah was born here in Tucson – in fact, only about a mile from his current law firm, DeConcini McDonald Yetwin & Lacy.  Mr. Hannah attended Arizona State University for his undergraduate degree in music and later attained his Juris Doctor from the University of Arizona.  Mr. Hannah comes from a family of attorneys, so the transition from music to law school was somewhat natural. However, he admits he had to brush up on writing skills as he entered law school! His legal career began in Phoenix; he clerked for the Honorable Charles L. Hardy (U.S. District Court).  Soon therafter, Mr. Hannah returned to Tucson, Arizona where he worked in private practice and eventually joined his current firm in 1999.

About five or so years ago, Mr. Hannah was seeking to increase his tax expertise.  He decided to attend Pima Community College for some accounting courses, and ended up earning a certificate in accounting and an internship at MOD Ventures, LLC.  Mr. Hannah enjoyed the work so much, he stayed on at MOD Ventures and works as a part-time accountant (in addition to his fulltime work as a shareholder at DeConcini!).

In addition to Mr. Hannah’s dual career, he still enjoys playing piano and travel.  One of his most memorable trips has been to the Garlieston area of Scotland, where his family originated.  Despite having a busy, full life, Mr. Hannah has volunteered for over two decades at the Volunteer Lawyers Program at SALA, assisting low-income individuals in Tucson.  He provided legal services in the former Minor Guardianship Court Clinic and he has taken numerous pro bono cases throughout the years. Mr. Hannah said he tries to never “say no” if SALA requests his service.  Southern Arizona Legal Aid, Inc., is truly grateful for Mr. Hanna’s 20+ year commitment to the Volunteer Lawyers Program.
