FREE CLEs! Please join the Volunteer Lawyers Program, a division of Southern Arizona Legal Aid, Inc., for our family law CLE series. The series will be an introduction to the basics of family law designed for new attorneys; licensed paraprofessionals; practicing attorneys who are interested in learning more about family law; and/or anyone interested in a family law refresher course. Paralegals are also welcome to attend. The series will be VIRTUAL and the schedule is as follows:
- “Family Law 101: Family Law Basics” on Thursday, April 6, 2023 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Kat Baiardi, VLP’s staff attorney, will review the statutory structure of divorce (with and without children) and paternity cases. After the presentation a panel of experienced volunteer and staff attorneys will be available to answer questions live.
- “Family Law 102: Procedure” on Thursday, May 4, 2023 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Kat Baiardi, Esq., will follow the initial CLE with the “how” of completing a divorce or paternity case, discussing procedure and practical applications. A panel of experienced volunteer and staff attorneys will be available to answer questions or discuss topics with the attendees following the presentation.
- “Family Law 103: Special Topics” on June 1, 2023 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Finally, Kat Baiardi, Esq., will lead the group in a variety of special topics in family law such as post decree modifications, relocation, and third party visitation. Again, a panel of volunteer and staff attorneys will be available to field questions and/or lead a live discussion about these topics after the presentation.
While the CLEs are free to the public, VLP and Southern Arizona Legal Aid request attendees volunteer for one or more of VLP’s legal advice-only family law clinics (one clinic is a 3 hour commitment), consider taking a family law case for one of our low-income clients in need of pro bono assistance, or volunteer in other capacities.
For any attorney that volunteers with VLP, Kat Baiardi, Esq., and Lila Sol, Esq. (VLP Director) will be available as a mentor, coach, and support person, if needed. And, for every 5 volunteer hours you give to VLP/SALA, you can earn 1 CLE credit for that volunteer time (up to 5 CLE hours). Please join us for our CLEs and consider helping VLP help low-income individuals in our community.
