SALA volunteers already make an impact in the local community. Since COVID-19 began in March 2020, SALA’s Volunteer Lawyers Program has worked hard to adjust to offering remote legal services and has been successful in supporting the same number of clients as in 2019.
COVID-19 has troubled many Arizonans and the statewide community needs legal volunteers more than ever. Beyond volunteering at SALA, there are volunteer opportunities for attorneys and law students to provide assistance for these Arizonans through the Arizona Attorneys Respond: Legal Hotline. The State Bar of Arizona and Arizona Bar Foundation created the Legal Hotline to provide relevant COVID-19 legal information to those struggling with legal challenges during this unprecedented time. Examples of the type of legal information volunteers help with include housing and family law issues, employment, and bankruptcy. In addition to volunteering as a legal hotline operator, attorneys can register to provide one-on-one legal consultations.
To volunteer, complete this application. If you are a law student, please contact Mabel Ramirez at the information below for more information about how to register to volunteer.
When you are selected to volunteer for the hotline, the State Bar will share information with you on quick training sessions. You can also visit the State Bar’s website for more information: https://azbar.org/for-lawyers/communities/arizona-attorneys-respond-legal-help-hotline/
Additional Benefits: The State Bar will be offering two free self-study CLE courses as well as one-year premium subscription to the State Bar’s Find-a-Lawyer platform (limited to the first 150 registrants) to member attorneys who volunteer.
