White Mountain Apache Legal Services is a division of Southern Arizona Legal
Aid, Inc. (SALA). SALA provides free, civil legal services to low-income Arizonans across nine counties
and 11 Native American communities with a footprint of approximately 33,000 square miles. SALA is
hiring an Intake Paralegal/Receptionist for its White Mountain Apache Office located in Fort Apache,
Arizona. Travel will be required between offices located in Fort Apache/Whiteriver.
The employee will be required to perform such duties as greeting clients, handling incoming phone calls,
ensuring prompt and courteous call backs, coordinating intake applications, facilitating a minimum of two
shifts per week on an agency-wide call flow system, and maintaining case files and office schedules for
attorneys and advocates. Other duties may include facilitating access to building for repairs, monitoring
inventory and ordering office supplies, and maintaining petty cash. May assist with gathering of reports,
scheduling appointments, providing information to callers, composing and typing routine correspondence,
and routing incoming mail. May also be responsible for scanning and returning original legal documents,
correspondence, tabbing exhibits, maintaining court calendars and tickler system. Other clerical duties
that may be required include preparing legal documents such as summonses, complaints, motions, and
subpoenas.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
1. Applicants must have one-year secretarial experience; experience in a legal setting a plus.
2. Applicants must be able to type at least 60 W.P.M. and have good knowledge of English Grammar,
punctuation, vocabulary and letter writing.
3. Applicants must be able to operate office equipment such as a computer, copiers, fax, etc.
4. Applicants should exhibit a high degree of sensitivity to the problems of the low-income
community.
5. Fluency in Apache preferred.
COMPENSATION
Salary range: $30,030-$52,175; up to five percent additional compensation to
individuals fluent in Apache. Excellent benefits package including health insurance, disability insurance,
