Southern Arizona Legal Aid, Inc. (SALA) is seeking a paralegal for our Civil Legal Assistance to Crime
Victims’ Project. The project will be based in the Tucson SALA office, but the paralegal may be asked to assist
clients residing in rural counties served by SALA. The paralegal position is full time and non-exempt.
The paralegal will be responsible for assisting the staff attorneys and advocates in the representation of crime
victim applicants whose civil legal needs are related to their victimization. Duties will include interviewing
potential clients, drafting pleadings, gathering documentation, oral and written translation in English and
Spanish, and preparing trial notebooks. The paralegal will be required to perform clerical and support duties as
needed, including scheduling appointments, preparing correspondence, maintaining and managing files and
calendars, typing, faxing, and contact with courts and the broader legal community. Clerical duties may
comprise as much as 40 percent of this position’s time.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
1. Applicants must have 2-5 years of paralegal experience. Experience working with crime victims and/or
survivors of domestic violence and the ability to speak and read Spanish is highly preferred. Previous
experience in legal services is helpful.
2. Applicants must exhibit a high degree of sensitivity to the problems of the low-income community and
should be able to work with low income and community groups.
3. Applicants should be knowledgeable in the general area of advocacy on behalf of the poor, and specifically
advocacy on behalf of crime victims and victims of domestic violence.
COMPENSATION
Salary range depending on experience: $30,481-$52.961; up to 5% additional
compensation available to individuals fluent in a language other than English, that is used by more than 10% of
SALA’s eligible client population. SALA has an excellent benefits package
