Managing Attorney – Show Low Office

DESCRIPTION:  

Southern Arizona Legal Aid, Inc. is hiring a Managing Attorney to work in its Show Low and Whiteriver offices.  The Whiteriver office is located on the White Mountain Apache Reservation. These offices serve Gila County, Navajo and Apache Counties (located in Northeastern Arizona in the scenic White Mountain area).  Both communities are located near resorts and recreational areas, with outstanding skiing, fishing and hunting.  Staff consists of two attorneys, two paralegals, tribal court advocate and support staff. The Managing Attorney will be required to undertake representation in a variety of civil cases in state and federal court as well as tribal court.   The Managing Attorney will also be required to supervise day to day operations of both offices. Some travel to other communities including the on the Apache reservation is required.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Applicants must have at least five years of legal experience, including supervisory experience; and be a member of the Arizona Bar or pass the next exam; applicants licensed 2 years in another jurisdiction may practice by special rule. Must be a member of the White Mountain Apache Reservation Bar or willing to become a member; experience in legal services helpful.
  2. Applicants must exhibit a high degree of sensitivity to the problems of the low-income community and should be able to work with low income and community groups. They should have initiative, good communication skills and the ability to work well in a multi- cultural setting. Applicants should be knowledgeable in the area of general civil practice and criminal defense in tribal court on behalf of the low-income community. Ability to speak Apache is helpful.

COMPENSATION: 

Salary range $50,050-$86,962 depending on experience; $10,000 Management Premium included; up to 5% additional compensation available to individuals fluent in Spanish.  SALA provides financial assistance to attorneys responsible for law school loans.  SALA has an excellent benefits package including, health insurance, pension plan and generous leave provisions.
