2025 Justice Champion: Oscar Lizardi

A proud native of Nogales, Arizona, Oscar Lizardi carries with him the values of
education, faith, and service instilled by his parents. His mother was a dedicated
elementary school teacher, and his father was an associate school superintendent
deeply involved in the community. From childhood clothing drives and fundraisers for a
local orphanage to a lifelong commitment to helping others, Oscar’s path has always
reflected the belief that giving back is both a duty and a privilege.

After earning a finance degree from Arizona State University and a law degree from
the University of Arizona College of Law, Oscar settled in Tucson in 1992 to begin his
legal career. He always wanted to be a lawyer, especially after seeing the character
Victor Sifuentes from LA Law. Today, as a corporate and commercial transactional
lawyer with Rusing, Lopez & Lizardi, he is known not only for his professionalism
but also for his deep sense of community. His service includes leadership roles with
organizations such as Child & Family Resources, San Miguel High School, the Tucson
Conquistadores, and Angel Charity for Children, among many others.

For Oscar, the law is both a calling and an opportunity for impact. “Helping people and
solving problems is the best part of being a lawyer,” he says. His proudest professional
moment came when his name was added to the firm’s door, though his greatest joy
continues to come from supporting charitable and educational causes.

An avid golfer and yoga enthusiast — such an enthusiast, in fact, that he is now a
certified yoga instructor! — Oscar treasures time with his daughters, loves laughing
with his childhood friends from Nogales, and finds peace in Kaanapali, Maui. Whether
in the courtroom, the boardroom, or the community, his life embodies compassion,
growth, and a steadfast belief that John, Paul, George, and Ringo had it right all along:
All you need is love.
