Job Announcement: Managing Attorney, Tucson

Southern Arizona Legal Aid, Inc. (SALA) is hiring a Managing Attorney to work in its Tucson Office. SALA serves 9 counties in Arizona and 11 Indian Reservations. The Managing Attorney will be required to undertake representation in a variety of civil cases in state and federal court as well as Chapter 13 Bankruptcies. The Managing Attorney will also be required to supervise day-to-day operations of the Public Benefits, Consumer and Housing Unit (CHPB). The CHPB Unit consists of four attorneys and one support staff.


1. Applicants must have at least five years of legal experience and be a member of the Arizona Bar or pass the next exam; applicants licensed two years in another jurisdiction may practice by special rule.

2. Applicants must exhibit a high degree of sensitivity to the problems of the low-income community and should be able to work with low-income and community groups. They should have initiative, good communication skills and the ability to work well in a multi-cultural setting.

3. Applicants should be knowledgeable in the area of general civil practice on behalf of the low-income community and specifically in the areas of housing, social security and bankruptcy law,

DOE; Up to five percent additional compensation to individuals fluent in Spanish. Payment of bar exam and admission fees for those not yet admitted. Student loan repayment assistance.
