Job Announcement: Paralegal – Show Low Office

DESCRIPTION
Southern Arizona Legal Aid, Inc. is hiring a paralegal to work in its Show Low office. The program serves nine counties in Arizona and eleven Indian Reservations. The Show Low office serves Navajo, Apache and Gila Counties, located in Northeastern Arizona in the scenic White Mountain area. The community is a somewhat isolated recreational area, with outstanding skiing, fishing and hunting. The present staff consists of Managing Attorney, Staff Attorney, Paralegal and support staff. The practice involves a wide range of civil representation and litigation for the poor. Some travel to other communities in Navajo, Gila and Apache counties may  be  required.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: supporting attorneys; assisting with trial preparation, interviewing clients; drafting of documents and correspondence; e-filing in both state and federal courts; gathering and organizing documents and other data; maintaining files; participation in weekly unit case-staffing meetings; and other duties as required.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Applicants must have initiative; excellent communication skills; ability to think critically and the ability to work well in a diverse and multi-cultural setting; and sensitivity to the problems of the low income community.
  2. Paralegal degree or certification a plus; experience in the legal profession may be considered in lieu of education or certification.

COMPENSATION

Salary range depending on experience:  $30,030 – $52,961;  Up to 5% additional compensation available to individuals fluent in a language other than English, that is used by more than 10% of SALA’s eligible client population.  SALA has an excellent benefits package.
