DESCRIPTION
Southern Arizona Legal Aid, Inc. (SALA) is a not-for-profit law firm. SALA serves 9 counties
in Arizona and 11 Indian Reservations. SALA is seeking a full-time Accounting Specialist. The Accounting
Specialist reports to and receives general direction from the Comptroller. The Accounting Specialist assists the
Comptroller, Grants Compliance Officer and Bookkeeper with accounting, billing, grants management, budgetary and
auditing functions and performs Human Resources benefit functions. The position is a “confidential employee”
position in that the employee will be involved in confidential management matters

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
• Associates Degree in Accounting and/or experience in accounting/bookkeeping minimum two years;
• Ability to work in high pressure, limited resource work environment;
• Excellent written, oral communication and listening skills;
• Ability to maintain confidentiality;
• Computer literacy;
• Demonstrated ability to manage time, evaluates progress, and adjusts activities to complete assignments
within established time frames.
• Bilingual in English/Spanish helpful.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Maintain payroll information in ADP system including position, salary rates; and leave accruals; train
newemployees onpayroll andtimekeepingsystem; generate payroll change forms for approval; prepare
payroll summary worksheet distributing salary expense by category and cost center. Filing payroll
forms.
2. Payroll processing including preparation of payroll data for submission to Automatic Data Processing
(ADP), maintenance of employee personnel files, preparation of payroll summary worksheet
distributing salary expense by category and cost center, preparation of worker’s compensation
quarterly reports, etc.
3. Review employee timesheets including ADP timesheets for funding code accuracy.
4. Prepare general journal to expense payroll for posting to the appropriate ledger accounts; reconcile
payroll related general ledger accounts; and develop and maintain needed subsidiary ledgers.
5. Process employee insurance enrollments, changes and terminations; process invoices for payment of
monthly premiums; 403(b) Thrift Plan enrollments, changes and terminations; and process changes for
all payroll deductions.
6. General Ledger maintenance including preparation of general journal entries as needed, preparation of
the distribution journal to expense payroll for posting to the appropriate ledger accounts, posting of
accounts payable, development and maintenance of all needed subsidiary ledgers.
7. Act as the back-up Accounting Clerk for SALA’s Client Trust Accounting as follows: Maintains
client trust account; issues receipts to clients for trust account funds received; prepares trust checks as
requested by attorney staff, ensuring that proper approvals are obtained for all checks issued; and
generate cash receipts and cash disbursements journals monthly.
8. Assists the Comptroller in the preparation of financial statements and the preparation of
program and project budgets and budget projections.
9. Assists in other fiscal related activities assigned by the Comptroller or designee as needed.
10. Other duties as assigned.

COMPENSATION
Salary range $30,030 – $60,430 depending on experience; up to five percent additional
compensation to individuals fluent in Spanish. Excellent benefits package including health insurance, disability
